The work is completed in several different phases: harvest and cleaning, cut, determination of quality and boiling, dryness and size of the piece.

To understand the processing of the root by Calabria Pipes’ facility, one really must follow all of the procedures from the beginning. Each uncut briar root comes personally chosen by the owner, Vito Carlino, and is then cut in pieces following the natural direction of the “flame” and finally the measurement requested by the factories and craftsmen.

After the cut, the root is boiled for several hours at a specific temperature.

At this point it is dried with special care and left to mature on special shelves until it is suitable for pipemaking.
