The “ERICA ARBOREA” is a bushy shrub that commonly
grows all around the Mediterranean.
Italy is the most important producer of this wood. A
spherical growth is formed underground, on the root of
this tree. The growth, or “burl”, is often called the
“diamond of woods”.
When these crude pieces of root, that we import from
Corsica and Sardinia, reach our facility, they already
have had a lot of work done to them.
The roots are from 30 to 60 years old, and arrive
professionally cut with precision into rough shapes
(ebauchon, partial plateaux, plateaux), then they are
boiled for 24 hours in copper containers to remove the
remaining resin and sap from the wood and then are
carefully restored to the temperature and humidity of
the environment.
Finally, the blocks are stored to season for at least 3
years.
